Fillon becomes Presidential Candidate of Conservatives

The conservatives in France have appointed former Prime Minister François Fillon as their candidate for the 2017 presidential election. Almost 70 per cent of the voters voted according to the Abbreviation for Fillon, 30 per cent for his opponent Alain Juppé.

After announcing the provisional result, Fillon declared himself the winner of the selection, while Juppé gave his defeat. The mayor of Bordeaux congratulated the election winner in Paris. "I wish him all the best for his upcoming presidential election," Juppé said, assuring Fillon of his support. In the coming spring, Fillon will now be a candidate for the conservative Republican Party.
All the eligible French were able to take part in the election and decide between the two former Prime Ministers. Fillon and Juppé had received the most votes a week ago in a first round. They were among others, against former President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Holland's decision is coming closer

The presidential election will take place at the end of April and early May 2017. Socialist François Hollande will probably announce in the coming weeks whether he will be back in the race.

The President-in-Office is now extremely unpopular in the population, which has weakened the French left. Observers therefore expect a duel for the presidency between Fillon and Marine Le Pen, the chairman of the national-populist Front National. According to polls in France, Le Pen is currently the most popular candidate.

Fillon is planning drastic economic reforms

The 62-year-old state-lawyer, Fillon, came out of the cover at the last minute in the candidates' right of the bourgeoisie. The notarious son, who is sober and serious, wants to go a long way in reforming the economy in order to make France more competitive in international comparison. He also sees this as a prerequisite to be able to talk to the most important EU partner in Germany.

The father of five children relies on traditional values. This is a good thing for conservative voters, especially in the province. In the election campaign, he defended himself against allegations that he questioned the right of women to abortion. He did not agree, he countered in this emotionally-led debate. He would not touch the subject.

In foreign policy, Fillon wants to remain an ally of the US, but at the same time strengthen relations with Russia. The enormous land must be tied closer to Europe is his credo. Fillon, who had already entered the National Assembly at the age of 27, served as head of government under Sarkozy from 2007 to 2012. From this time he personally knows Vladimir Putin. The Russian autocrat once called Fillon a "decent man".
